I've heard the whole "homoerotic" thing before. It's quite funny though, it normally comes from people who would literally shit themselves in a fight.

i think people only mean it when they're talking about the WWF and stuff though, because thats not real so the joke can be made that they're only doing it to feel each other up and whatnot. you only really hear it in that context- it never gets said about boxing etc.

hey drummo whats your main style i am big in to my marshile art althought people think capoeira is a gay marshile art but its not the only one i know I would definately lean heavily towards Muay Thai. I do Muay Thai, Free Style wrestling (college wrestling - and rarely at that) and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (made famous by the Gracies) I would not really rate Capoeira as a fighting art but it's far from "gay". I respect the flexibilty and upper body strength involved. Fair play to you man!!! When it comes to Martial Arts, there's often alot left up to the imagination. That's why I really don't go in for the whole Karate/Kung Fu thing (although, I did do them) because it's full of these "secret techniques" and blah blah blah and beside a bit of pretty light sparring, it's about as close to fighting as dancing is! Plus, alot of these clubs put nearly no emphasis on fitness. Athletic ability is esential in a fight. You've no idea (sorry, maybe some of you have) just how tiring a fight is! Try fighting for 2x5 minute rounds (my next fight is 3x5mins) That's why the ring sports are best, boxing, Muay Thai (thai boxing - you may have seen Ong Bak?) and wrestling. These are best because you get in the ring and you fight and you train and you get better. This was shown in the early Ultimate Fighting Championships when you had all this "KUNG-FU vs SUMO" jazz. It became evident early on what worked when the wrestlers and boxers and thai boxers were hading guys their asses!!! And when the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fellas started takin down fellas twice their size and submitting them, the world went crazy!!! No, it's all merging into one. If you want to fight you have to be good in the 3 ranges - Stand-Up (boxing, Muay Thai) Clinch (wrestling, maybe judo) and ground (brazilian jiu-jitsu) Wow, kind of went off on a rant there......sorry! I wonder if "fianna" will be able to resist jumping in on this thread?

Interesting discussion on fighting techniques. I don't know fuck all about fighting (I'm a lover, see), but would totally agree with you on the athletic ability front.
