The unions asked people who wished to support Irish Ferries to do so on there lunch breaks. At the very most this meant there'd be a reduction in some services. It was never a strike.
If there was any reduction in service at all, which is doubtful, all transport will be back to it's usual, unreliable self by rush hour.

It was never a strike, it was a national day of protest, not just in support of a few select workers (myself included), but also in protest at the lack of intervention by a useless government in a matter which will, ultimately, affect all our standards of living, and those of future generations.
Over 145,000 people turned out over the country, and this, at first glance, does seem to have made some impact on talks which were otherwise at a stalemate. Finally, management realise they have to retain a customer base...
One thing I found comical though is that Irish Ferries own workers were docked a day's pay to attend a march to defend their jobs, while other workers throughout the country were encouraged to attend by their bosses. Stick it to these fuckers!!!
And the most amazing attitude I've encountered was one woman who was actually delighted to be delayed, as she felt it was a sign that the country wasn't as apathetic as she'd previously thought. The spirit of Mr Larkin was very much in evidence yesterday. This country rules. ;D
