Wow, talk about closed-minded... I agree with bliss, people can believe what they want about music, just cos their opinion differs to yours it doesn't mean it's wrong, at least i think that's the general gist of it. I'm quite the Nirvana fan, not a Kurt Cobain fan. I love Nirvana's music. I think the songwriting was brilliant, however simple. His lyrics are meaningful, they obviously go deep for him as he wrote about what he knew and what he experienced. The Beatles are amazing, they will forever be known as the band who had the biggest effect on the face of music. But I guess they're not 'Hardcore' enough for you people. When will you start to open your mind? Clapton ois a legend, Dylan is better, Lennon was a genius. And Fairplay to whoever mentioned layne, I love that man. Oh by the way I'm predominantly a thrash metal fan, exodus, kreator and Megadeth bein my favorite bands, i guess what I'm sayin is people need to learn to appreciate all music, even if they don't like to listen to it.

me too
i dont love kurt. But i can appreciate some people do. The only reason i compared him to Lennon was because someone used it as a point against him. In my opinion Lennon was a far superior artist, But thats just my opinion
And no Rob i dont get maths much

What is? The definition of uninspiring music? Layla, Cocaine etc. is uninspiring? He's the greatest guitarist ever to walk the earth too!

An Artist is nothing without a voice which Bob Dylan just doesn't have, come on, even Blue Thunder have better vocal than he does!

Bob Dylan had the voice, not anymore, but it doesn't give a shit when he can write amazing songs, it makes him just as talented if not more talented...
And Clapton is not the best guitarist to ever walk the earth, let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Are we talking about Dylan before his bike accident or after? There is a difference in his vocal skills pre and post accident. I still think the man is great. I must clarify that I was in no way saying that anyone who likes Nirvana/Cobain is an idiot with no musical taste. I dislike the man. I dislike Nirvana now coz Im fucking sick of hearing it played to death and the minute it is played people start harping on about what a great man he was. I feel I must clarify again here:
To me very few musicians are GREAT men. They may be very talented human beings who no doubt affect many people and do help enrich some peoples lives, but I do not feel they compare in greatness to people such as Stephen Hawking, Einstein, Pasteur Crick and Watson and others who have without doubt helped to shape the human race and our understanding of life as a whole. Now this is in my humble opinion. I am sure many people will disagree but sure jaysus that is life.
Idont agree with the senseless musical taste bashing. Hell I have a musical taste that is downright fucked. I know this, but its MY taste. Everything from Les Miserables to Clapton to Mastodon to Colin Hay. I likes lots of different music, and I know my taste is not the only TRUE taste or anything that foolish.
I will say this to the people who do Hero-worship Cobain I would suggest you find a hero who is worthy of your praise. I feel the man was a fool for allowing what happened to him happen, in fact why not try living without heroes, after all humans are fallible and that includes ALL heroes!

Dylan is amazing, was amazing and his songs will always be amazing.
That fact that his voice sounded like someone put pebbels in a blender but yet HE STILL is considered a great artist only prooves his talent.
Anyway Phil, your so wrong about heros.
There is one man worth our praise and worship
that man is
Chuck Norris.

Emma........if you say his name he shows up behind you and kicks you in the face. Even typing it is dangerous. Thats why I didnt!! Also he knows what he is and so does everyone, but harping on about how much of a hero he is, normally results in him getting angry and the last time that happened, the Cuban Missile Crisis occurred, so lets not anger him anymore than we need to.
Oh god I may have said too much already!?!?!?!?!

That would be funny if the cuban missile crisis actually involved some deaths, when really it was just about a load of embargoes and shit

Sorry guys. I only listen to good bands. I don't disrespect the ability that Clapton or Dylan et al had, back in the day, but just because someone was the forebear of modern music doesn't make them worthy of lofty praise.
I don't listen to Eric Clapton, not because he's ass, but because he's irrelevant. Pow!

Nice variety of opinions floatin around. I like that, I fucking hate when people are given shit jus because of their own personal tastes. Anyway, on to voicing my opinion. Greatest living musician today = Robert Smith.

Oh good call, i love his voice and some of the cure songs are amazing although I would never claim to be a big time cure fan. I like what I like if ya get me.
Thats a really hard question as there are quite a few really amazing artist around at the moment but Im not sure who will stand the test of time.
Iggy Pop is a legend, if even only for managing to stay alive this long!
