Isn't it ironic to hear record companies whine about losing money due to downloading, yet the richest people in the music business are the ones who've never written a song in their life e.g.Simon Fuller,Louis Walsh,Simon Cowell etc.

Its the same as Metallica. In the early days they allowed people to bring in recording devices, as they insisted it was about the music, and not about the money, just look at them now

Record companies always make money, most bands only make money from merch sold at the gigs, with large bands such as metallica being the exceptions to the rule, charging E65 for a ticket. but usually the gigs under 40 brick, the bands only make it back on t-shirts etc. but the record companies never lose out. Shower of bastards, even with downloads the advent of itunesand the like means the record companies don't have to fork out for jewel cases, inlay cards, printing, and the physical cd's, so they save about $2-$4 per cd, which is a lot for them considering the volume of cd's produced for any given band, and it doesn't cost them any money to let people sit at home and download it, and they don't have to pay shipping/handling costs or any cross border taxes. So once again everybody wins except for the bands (unless you're metallica/slayer/girls aloud)
