Slipknot Threatens Burger King With Lawsuit

Rockers Slipknot have taken legal action to shut down a new Burger King marketing campaign that they believe mimics their mask-wearing stage attire.
The Grammy-nominated band is threatening a trademark infringement lawsuit against the food chain's executives and their advertising agency over a series of TV ads.
The commercials feature a fictional group, who wears masks that Slipknot claims resembles their famous stage costumes.
Slipknot attorney Howard Weitzman says, "It is obvious that the television advertising and website are designed to conjure up the image and persona of a live performance of Slipknot."
Weitzman adds that the costumes include "a gas mask as worn by Slipknot's Sid Wilson, a kabuki-style mask as worn by Slipknot's Joey Jordison, and a mask with dreads as worn by Slipknot's Corey Taylor."
However, Burger King's legal representation says, "The Coq Roq band is a mock heavy metal band that is markedly and obviously different from Slipknot except for the generic fact that both play heavy metal music and wear masks."
